Buhera Lamp, 30"H x 18"D
The base of this table lamp began its life as a traditional Buhera basket, handwoven in the Buhera region of Zimbabwe. Each basket is made entirely by hand using natural, sustainably sourced cane, following techniques that have been passed down through generations. The subtle variations in shape and texture are part of what make these pieces so special—no two are exactly alike, and each one carries the unmistakable touch of its maker.
Buhera baskets are woven exclusively by women, who work close to the ground rather than at tables, often lowering their workspace into a small hole in the earth as they weave. Originally used for gathering and storing grain, these baskets have long been a practical part of daily life. During the rainy season, from mid-December through mid-April, very few baskets are made, as farming takes priority—making each one all the more meaningful.
Reimagined here as a lamp base, the basket brings warmth, texture, and a quiet sense of history into the home. It’s a piece that celebrates craftsmanship, culture, and the beauty of everyday objects made by hand.
